Samuel Alexander Marshall

  • Dear Mr. Marshal,
      I am researching my family history and am hoping that you can help me. I'm interested in learning more about my g-g-grandfather Samuel Alexander Marshall (1889-1967) and his wife Grace Williams (1890- 1919). Both lived in New Cumberland, WV. I'm also interested in information on their daughter Jeanette (Nettie) Marshall-Stanley and Samuel's parents, William Marshall and Sarah Geer. If you can offer anymore information, I would very much appreciate it.

    I appreciate your response to my email. This is certainly an interesting branch of the Marshall family. I've been finding a few discrepancies in my research, and it does not help that I'm just a college kid with limited resources! Samuel A. Marshall may have been born 07-1887, not 1889 as I originally thought. His wife, Grace Williams, died in 1919 in a fire, along with their month-old baby twin girls, Grace Edna Marshall and Lelia Anne Marshall. Their daughter, Jeanette (Nettie) Marshall, saw this happen and grew up with many mental problems. She married William Edgar Stanley, son of Perry Stanley and Essie Rader(1885-1949). I do not know much of anything more about Samuel's parents; however, I believe his father may have been Samuel Marshall, not William. And you are correct, his mother Sarah's last name was Greer, not Geer. I hope this clears everything up! Let me know if this helps.
