Robert was born about 1731.  Robert's father was Robert Marshall Sr and his mother was Margaret Luttrell.  His maternal grandparents were Simon Luttrell and Margaret Churchwell. He had four brothers and a sister, named Thomas, Jacob, John, William and Judith.  He was the second oldest of the six children.
