Maurine was born in 1924 in San Augustine, TX.  Maurine's father is Van Daniel Marshall and her mother is Bessie Beatrice Gray (Grey).  Her paternal grandparents are John Mather Marshall and Emma D Wood (Woods). She has a brother and three sisters, named Daniel M, Maudid L, Winnie D and Jessie J.  She is the youngest of the five children.
