Mahala was born about 1844 in KY.  Mahala's father is William Marshall and her mother is Hester Pickett.  Her paternal grandparents are John Marshall and Nelly Klette/Cleete?? Cleek. She has a brother and four sisters, named Squire, Susan, Mary, Catherine and Lucinda.  She is the fourth oldest of the six children. She has seven half-brothers and four half-sisters, named William F, Elmire, George W, Winford N, Charley, James D, Justus Triumpth, Martha J, Margaret M, Merissa E and Harriet H.
