James' father was Maj. Thomas John Marshall (Group 11 Kit  27215) and his mother was Sarah Darby.  His paternal grandparents were Maj. Thomas Marshall and Patience V. He had five brothers and three sisters, named John, Theophilus, Levin, Henry, Henry, Patience, Sarah Sally and Mary.  He died in 1783 in Caroline Co., MD.
