James was born about 1694.  James' father was Robert Marshall and his mother was Mary Penny.  His paternal grandparents were John of Bacon's Rebellion Isle of Wight VA Marshall and <Unknown>; his maternal grandparents were Richard Bacon's rebellion Penny (Penney) and Mary. He had a brother and a sister, named Humphrey and Mary.  He was the second oldest of the three children. He had four half-brothers named Robert, John, Humphrey and Joseph.  He died about 1759.
