David H was born on September 8th, 1834 in Cairo, Ritchie, WV.  David H's father was Joseph Marshall and his mother was Hannah McKinney.  His paternal grandparents were William Marshall and <Unknown>; his maternal grandparents were William McKinney and Frances Piatt. He had six brothers and a sister, named William McKinney, Frances James, John Piatt, Robert Ruth, Jacob W, Hezekiah Bukey and Eleanor.  He was the youngest of the eight children.
