David was born about 1792.  David's father was Lindsey Marshall and his mother was Nancy Mercer.  His paternal grandparents were James Marshall and Jane Lindsey; his maternal grandparents were Edward Mercer Jr and Sarah Lemon Layman. He had three brothers and three sisters, named James, William V, Layman Lemon, Ruth, Rebecca and Elizabeth.  He was the third oldest of the seven children.  He died in 1842.
