David was born about 1751 in Bradford Twp., Chester Co., Pa.  David's father was Isaac Marshall and his mother was Ann Vernon.  His paternal grandparents were Abraham  distiniguished botanist and horticulturist Marshall and Mary Hunt. He had a brother named Joshua. He had two half-brothers named Caleb and Isaac.
