    Well you found me... you inquery was forwarded to me by Norma Marshall
    from an instructor from the Muscogee (Creek) Nation College..... "Marshall"
    There was a man in our tribal history named Benjamin Marshall... He own the
    land right by the bridge in Columbus GA the bridge goes across the
    Chattahoochee River into the state of Alabama.
    Ben Marshall came into Indian Territory and settled just east of "Coweta,
    OK". Koweta, was the first Creek Town west of the Mississippi River.
    He was slave owner. His plantation in Indian Territory was east of Coweta
    on the Arkansas River. The plantation was distroyed during the Civil War.
    After the War he came back but didn't stay because every thing was gone.
    His slaves came back and began farming the same plantation because for some
    of them that was the only home they knew since so many were born here in
    Indian Territory. Many of them took the surname "Marshall" because that was the only name they had
    So you will find many Blacks with the name 'Marshall". Before the Civil War there was a small town east of
    Coweta called Marshall Town. I believe it was near or was the plantation
    of Ben Marshall's. There is a wonderful account of Marshall Town written
    in the Oklahoma Cronicales, which is the Quarterly Journel from Oklahoma.

    I'll do more research for you. It is after 5:00 pm and we are closed and I
    have 42 miles to drive to my home in "Coweta". I was born and raised in
    Coweta. My family has been there since before Statehood (1907). But that
