John was born about 1748.  John's father was William Lewis and his mother is Saran Branham.  His paternal grandparents are John Lewis and <Unknown>; his maternal grandparents are John Branham and Rachel Webb. He had four brothers and four sisters, named James, William, Benjamin, George, Mary, Elizabeth, Ann and Winifred.  He is the third oldest of the nine children.
