John was born on January 15th, 1765 in Rowan County, NC.  John's father was John Lewis and his mother was Priscilla Brooks.  His paternal grandparents were David Lewis and Mary Crawford; his maternal grandparents are Jacob Brooks and Elizabeth Warren. He had four brothers and three sisters, named David, Jacob, Stephen, Richard, Rosannah, Jean and Sarah.  Sarah and John were twins.  He died at the age of 83 on April 5th, 1848 in IN.
