Christopher was born about 1593 in Penarth, Glamorganshire, Wales.  Christopher's father was William Lewis and his mother was Sarah Cathcart.  His paternal grandparents were Edward Lewis and Margaret Jones. He had two brothers and a sister, named William, Robert and Anne.  He was the oldest of the four children.
