His paternal grandparents are Earl Alan of Brittany La Zouche and Princess Constance of Brittany Le Gros; his maternal grandparents are Alan IV Fergent de Bretagne Duke de Bretagne and Ermengarde de Anjou. Vicompte Eudes I de Porhoet and Anne De Leon De Brittany are his grandparents through his father's adoption. He is an only child.
