David was born on March 10th, 1769 in York County, Pa.  David's father was Col Joseph Holmes and his mother was Rebecca Hunter.  His paternal grandparents are Hugh OR Andrew OR David POSS Holmes and <Unknown>; his maternal grandparents are Paul Hunter and <Unknown>. He had three brothers and three sisters, named Hugh, Andrew Hunter, Joseph, Gertrude, Ann Nancy and Margaret.  He died at the age of 63 on August 20th, 1832.
