Samuel was born about 1750.  Samuel's father was John Gordon and his mother was Elizabeth Roy.  His paternal grandparents were John George Gordon and Mary Sarah Chapman; his maternal grandparents were James Roy and Elizabeth Linton. He had a brother named Thomas William.  He was the older of the two children.  He died about 1805.
