         January 1928 Obituary
    
    Emma E. Filson was born in Steubenville, Ohio, December 2, 1852 and passed
    to her heavenly home January 22, 1928, at 11:35 p.m. at the age of 75 years
    1 month. and 20 days.
    
    On February 24, 1873 she was united in Marriage to LeGrand Marshall at Mt.
    Vernon, Ohio.  To this union were born nine children:  Frank R., Seattle,
    Washington, Charles S. of Sedalia, Mo., S. A. Marshall, Oklahoma City,  Guy
    of Watonga, Cliff of Memphis, Tenn., Mrs. Ed McGee of Los Angeles, Calif.,
    Mrs. Sherman Masters, Chickasha, Okla., Mr. N. J. Neighbors, Parsons,
    Kansas, and Mrs. Bessie Jones who passed away September 16, 1919.
    
    She was preceded in death by her father and mother and a brother Joe who
    died at the age of four years and a sister Rette who died at the age of 18
    years.
    
    In July 1889 Mr. and Mrs. Marshall moved to Kingfisher from western Kansas,
    and from Kingfisher to Watonga at the opening of the Cheyenne - Arapahoe
    Country in 1892.
    
    In early childhood sister Marshall united with the Methodist Church and has
    always been a faithful member of said Church, was a Charter Member of the
    Kingfisher Church, also a Charter Member of our Watonga Church; and with her
    passing the last Charter Member has gone to receive her reward and hear the
    sweet words "Well done".
    
    In early life sister Marshall was a successful school teacher for a number
    of years, was a life member of the Eastern Star.  She leaves to mourn her
    loss, her husband, 8 children and 16 grandchildren.
    
    Services were held on Tuesday at the Methodist Church by Rev. Grant.
    
    A quartet:  Mrs. Beech, Ray Boyce, Mrs. Camm and W. H. Adcock with Mrs. Goeche at the piano, furnished the music.  At the cemetery the Eastern Star
    had charge of the services.

                        O'er the threshold by night,
                   To make her abode
                        In the City of light."

                   PIONEER WOMAN CROSSES TO THE OTHER SIDE
    
    Again the editor the the Republican is called upon to write of the passing
    of a pioneer in our community.  These calls are coming all too fast of recent
    months.  In the passing of Mrs. Marshall, one of the women who had much to do
    with the building of our community has gone to her reward.  Pioneer of two
    states, charter member of two pioneer churches, active in every move for the
    many things needed for the advancement of a new community.  It is hard for
    those who have only known her during the years of her invalided condition to
    fully realize the scope of her useful and busy life during early days in
    Watonga.  Those few of us who are still here, those who were so closely
    associated with her in those days can appreciate how firmly a woman with her
    wonderful character and personality can leave her impression upon the
    community.  It is with heartfelt sorrow that we record the death of Mrs.
    Marshall.  Her going breaks another link in the golden chain of early day
    friendship.  What a crowd of these friends are gathered over there, what
    rejoicing there must be when another pioneer joins them.  We are glad that the business houses of the town honoring her memory by closing during the
    last rites.  The Eastern Star had honored her the past week by presenting her
    with a life certificate of membership, which at request, was placed in her
    casket.
    
    We are glad that Rev. Grant told so fittingly of her willingness to go and of
    her long and useful life.  It seemed not like death for Mrs. Marshall to be
    lying there among the beautiful flowers, among friends gathered about.  She
    seemed to be only resting.

                        RESOLUTIONS OF RESPECT
    
    Whereas:  The almighty and Supreme Ruler of Heaven and Earth has in his
    infinite wisdom seen fit to call from the walks of life, our dear Sister Emma
    Marshall, a member of the Watonga Chapter of Order of Eastern Star No. 83.
    
    Resolved, that in the death of sister Marshall her husband has lost a devoted
    wife, the children a devoted and loving mother.
    
    Be it further resolved, that although we will sadly miss her, we bow in humble submission to the will of Him who doeth all things well.
    
    Be it further resolved, that we tender our heart felt sympathy to the bereaved family. and that a copy be given to each paper for publication,
    and that they be spread upon the minutes of the Chapter.
