    Continuing the list of the children of Haden and Penelope Sanford
    Edwards....after John...
    
    II. Penelope Edwards, b. ca 1750 in VA and marr. there to Col.
    William Pope of VA. They later removed to KY where their descendants
    were prominent. This family has been quite fully written up in the
    William and Mary Quarterly, Vols. 9 and 12, as well as other places.
    
    III. Benjamin Edwards, b. in VA 1752; d. 1826. He was commissioned
    2nd Lieut. Aug 26, 1776, by the Council of Safety of Maryland (see MD
    Arch. Vol XVI folio 346). He was also a member of Congress from
    Montgomery Co, MD. He marr. Margaret, dau. of Ninian Beall of
    Montgomery co, Md. He was known as "the friend and patron of William
    Wirt", whom he raised and educated. According to information sent,
    and now on file in the D.A.R. Library, Washington, DC, by Mrs. Graham
    Lawrence, of Shelbyville, KY, Benjamin and Margaret Beall Edwards had
    issue:
    
    (1) Ninian Edwards, married Elvina Lam. Ninian Edwards (1775-
    1833) was major of the KY Militia in 1802, Judge of the Court of
    Appeals in 1806, Chief Justice of the State of KY in 1808, Gov of IL
    Territory from 1809 to 1818, United States Senator from IL, 1818 to
    1824, Gov of IL from 1826 to 1830.
    
    (2) Presley Edwards, marr. Hester Pope. He was mentioned as one
    of the executors of the Will of his grandmother, Mrs. Penelope
    Sanford Edwards.
    
    (3) Cyrus Edwards, marr. 1st--Nancy Reed, second, Sophia ______.
    
    (4) Benjamin Edwards, marr. Eliza Green
    
    (5) Elisha Edwards, marr. Lucy Richardson and Martha F. Upshaw
    
    (6) Polly Edwards, marr. 1st Mr. Whittaker, and 2nd Ben Helm
    
    (7) Penelope Edwards, marr. Mr. Whittaker
    
    (8) Elizabeth Edwards, marr. John Grey
    
    (9) Margaret Edwards, d. unmarried
    
    (10) Matilda Edwards, marr. Mr Cossett
    
    (11) Lucretia Edwards, marr. Mr. Green
    
    (12) Rachel Edwards, marr. Mr. Warfield
    
    IV. Sanford Edwards, was b. in VA and d. in 1815. He served as a
    corporal, 2nd Troup, VA Light Dragoons, 1st Regiment, Commanded by
    Col. Theodoric Bland, payroll, 1777. (See: Boogher, Glean. VA Hist.
    pg. 187). He is said to have removed to SC shortly after the Rev.
    War, and to have been a distinguised physician. Of his issue, if any,
    I have no record.
    
    V. Nancy Edwards, b. in VA about 1756. She marr. General Charles
    Williams.
    
    VI. Mary Edwards, b. in VA about 1758 and marr. William Ashmore of
    KY. She is not mentioned in her father's Will and probably d. before
    1801.. They had issue so far as I know but one child:
    
    (1) Penelope Ashmore, marr. 23 July 1801 her first cousin Amos
    Edwards. She is mentioned in the Will of her grandfather, Haden
    Edwards.
    
    VII. Elizabeth Edwards, b. in VA, in 1760 and marr. there in 1781,
    John Chancellor, a first cousin of President James Monroe, and son of
    John and Jane Monroe Chancellor of Westmoreland and Prince William
    counties, VA. (For Monroe lineage see Wm. and Mary Quarterly, Oct
    1933). John Chancellor d. in Orange Co, VA, and his widow marr.
    second in that county 2 Feb 1812 John Keeton, Sr, by whom she had no
    issue. Elizabeth Edwards Chancellor Keeton d. at "Forest Hall",
    Spotsylvania Co, VA, 19 Nov 1840,. John and Elizabeth Edwards
    Chancellor had issue:
