Samuel's father was Nathaniel Robert Davis (Black Davis' Powhatan) Sr and his mother is Abadiah Lewis. His paternal grandparents are Nathaniel TRADER Davis I and Mary Elizabeth Hughes (Powhatan); his maternal grandparents are Capt Hugh ap Lewis and Elizabeth. He has two brothers and a sister, named Robert, Philip and Abadiah. He has four half-brothers named Absalom, Lewis, Hugh and Landon.
