Marretje was born in April 1641 in Flatlands, Kings Co, Long Island, New York.  Marretje's father is Garrett Wolferssen Van Covenhoven and her mother was Altje Cool.  Her paternal grandparents are Wolfert Gerritse Covenhoven and Neeltje Jacobdottir (Jacobsdochter); her maternal grandfather is Cornelius Lambertsen Cool and her maternal grandmother was Aeltje Brackhonge. She had two brothers and a sister, named Pieter Wolphertse, Willem Geretse and Neeltje.  She died at the age of 67 in 1708 in Flatlands, Kings Co, Long Island, New York.
