James was born on May 22nd, 1783 in VA.  James' father was James Coffer and his mother is Parthena Partheny.  His paternal grandfather was Thomas Coffer and his paternal grandmother is Mary.  He was an only child.  He died at the age of 74 in December 1857 in Forsyth Co, N.C..
