Marshall was born in 1721 in VA.  Marshall's father was Thomas Camp and his mother was Mary Iva or Ida unproven Marshall.  His paternal grandparents are Thomas Camp and Catherine Barron. He had three brothers named Thomas, John and Ambrose.  He was the third oldest of the four children.
