Gilbert was born about 1789 in Franklin Co., VA.  Gilbert's father was William M Bozzel Boswell and his mother was Mary Jane Mason.  His paternal grandparents were John POSS Boswell and Henrietta; his maternal grandparents were Gilbert Mason and Elizabeth Dale. He had a brother named Thomas B Bozzel.  He died on December 7th, 1854 in Jackson VA.
