William was born about 1816.  William's father is George Bishop and his mother is Elizabeth Ann Swearingen (Sweingin).  His paternal grandparents are Jacob Johann Jacob Bischoff Bishop and Margaret Church. He has three brothers named Thomas Van, Otho and Eli.
