Amanda Talitha was born in 1852. Amanda Talitha's father was William Crawford Beatty (Batie) and her mother was Annie Hendricks. Her paternal grandparents were Robert Beatty (Batie) and Sallie Phillips; her maternal grandparents were William Hendrix Hendricks Sr and Susannah Sokinny (Cherokee). She had a brother and a sister, named William Battie and Sallie. She was the second oldest of the three children. She had a half-sister named Susan.
