Pearlie Austin was born on April 25th, 1902 in Cherokee Co., NC.  Pearlie Austin's father was William Hamilton Arrowood and his mother was Sarah Elizabeth Marshall.  His paternal grandparents were LaFayette Arrowood and Mary Polly Killian. He had two brothers named John Ross and Leslie Crawford.  He was the second oldest of the three children.
