Martha Ann was born in 1810.  Martha Ann's father was Rev Haywood I Alford and her mother was Elizabeth Marshall. She had three brothers and two sisters, named William, John H, Stanford Lamb, Nancy Malinda Marshall and Elizabeth.  She was the oldest of the six children.
