Clément was born on October 26th, 1769 in Prétot, Haute-Normandie, France and his christening took place there on October 26th, 1769 conducted by a curate.  His godfather was Clement GUERILLOU and his godmothers were Marie, Catherine SAILLOT.  Clément's father was Antoine LEMERCIER and his mother was Marie Magdeleine ETIENNE.  His paternal grandparents were Anthoine LEMERCIER and Jeanne HOMO; his maternal grandparents were Nicolas ETIENNE and Marguerite MACHE. He had a brother and a sister, named Nicolas and Catherine.  Catherine and Clément were twins.
