His paternal grandparents were LEWIS Sir Craig and BEATRIX "Lady" Chirnside; his maternal grandparents were JAMES 2nd Master of Cranstoun and ELIZABETH Stewart. He had a brother and three sisters, named John, Ann, Maria and Sarah. He died at the age of 41 on June 28th, 1681 in Riccarton, Midlothian, , Scotland.-
