Sarah was born in 1817 in , Smith, Tennessee, USA. Sarah's father was Alexander Bain and her mother was Mary Ann Spencer. Her paternal grandparents were ROBERT Edward or Edwin Bain and RACHAEL Sarah Fletcher; her maternal grandparents were John Spencer and Ann Kerr. She had six brothers and five sisters, named George W, Harrison, Spencer, James Andrew McDonald Fate, Henry J, John W, Nancy Ann, Nancy Ann, Elizabeth, Mahala Jane and Harriette Matilda. She died at the age of 56 in 1873 in Indian Creek, De Kalb, Tennessee, USA.-
