Ransom was born about 1785 in Bedford Co, Va. Ransom's father was Lt. Henry Pleasant Jeter and his mother was Elizabeth "Betsey" Bell. His paternal grandparents were Thomas Jeter and Winifred Prosser?; his maternal grandparents were William Bell and Frances......................... He had seven brothers and three sisters, named John, Sovereign, Pleasant, Henry, Elliott, Caleb, Jesse, Nancy, Jenny "Gincey" Jane and Elizabeth"Betsey" Jane Bell. He was the third youngest of the eleven children. He died in 1884 in Botetourt Co, Va. He was buried in Botetourt Co, Va.-
