William was born in 1133 in Warrington, Lancashire, England.1   William's father was Robert le Boteler and his mother was <Unknown>.  His paternal grandparents were Ralph Pincerna le Boteler and Avice. He had a brother and a sister, named Robert and Edelina.  He was the second oldest of the three children.2
