John Leonard and Elizabeth Savoree Collier
John Leonard Collier was born April 28, 1837 in Indiana to Morgan and Elizabeth (Betsey) Purvis Collier. Betsey's pa- rents were James and Rhoda Roberts Purvis from North Caro- lina, where he served in the American Revolution. Elizabeth Savoree Collier was the daughter of John and Eliza Curry Savoree and he came from France. John and Elizabeth Collier were married March 10, 1863, and lived in Clark County all their lives. They were farmers and built a new home in 1896 just south of Snyder, Illinois. His sons, William and Commodore, lived north of John at Collier's Crossing. John served as a private in the Civil War. They had 13 children. James, who married Catherine Bollinger and had 7 children; William, who married Hattie Kildow and had 6 children; Elizabeth, who (died in 1885, at 16 years of age; John, who died in 1888, at 16 years of age; Francis Marion, who married Fairy Holwick and had 9 chil- dren; Commodore, who married Lida Hutchinson and had 10 children; Matilda, who married Farmer Cornwell and raised 2 foster children; Lillie, who married Nick Mylcs and had 3 children; Ola, who married Clarence Good; Isabell, who mar- Bert Wait and had 12 children. There were 49 grandchildren
