Hugh was born in 1169 in Duffus, Moravia, Scotland.1 Hugh's father was William Sutherland and his mother was de Olifard Oliphant. His paternal grandparents were Freskin Sutherland and <Unknown>; his maternal grandparents were David de Oliphant and <Unknown>. He had three brothers named Hugh, William and Andrew. He was the oldest of the four children. He died at the age of 53 in 1222 in Duffus Castle, Morayshire, Scotland. He was buried in Church of Duffus.2 1 -
