Robert, known as The Competitor, was born in 1210 in Annandale, Dumfrieshire, Scotland.1   The Competitor's father was Sir Robert de Bruce Lord of Annandale and his mother was Isabella Huntingdon.  His paternal grandparents were Sir William de Bruce and Christina; his maternal grandparents were Earl of Huntingdon David de Huntingdon and Maud Chester. He had two brothers and two sisters, named Bernard, Richard, Beatrice and Matilda.  He was the third oldest of the five children.  He died at the age of 84 on April 17th, 1294 in Priory, Lochmaben, Dumfriesshire, Scotland.1
