Joseph Slaughter was born in 1847 in Stevensburg, Culpeper Co., VA.. Joseph Slaughter's father was James Henry VOWLES Md and his mother was Sarah Martha Wallace NORMAN. His maternal grandparents were Thomas NORMAN Esq. and Frances STEWART. He had two brothers and two sisters, named Newton Elwyn, John James, Fannie Thomas and Lucy Ada.
