John Carter [Sr @@] was born on December 23rd, 1832 in Elbert Co, GA. John Carter [Sr @@]'s father was Benjamin T [Jr Rev @@] Thornton and his mother was Nancy Fleming Payne. His paternal grandparents were Benjamin T [Sr @@] Thornton and Sarah E [@@] Upshaw. He had eight brothers and three sisters, named Fleming Payne [@@], Thomas S [@@], William E [@@], Benjamin Calloway [Sr Rev @@], Asa Chandler [@@], Dozier [@@], Mallory J [@@], Jesse N [@@], Sarah Kindred [@@], Mary Ann [@@] and Priscilla E [@@]. He was the sixth youngest of the twelve children. He died at the age of 31 on October 19th, 1864.-
