William L. was born on November 16th, 1866 in Taylor Co., KY.1 William L.'s father was William G. Sprowls and his mother was Sarah "Sally" Underwood. His maternal grandparents were William C. Underwood and Mariah J. Druin. He had three brothers and six sisters, named James Marion, Robert, John Proctor, Nancy Jane, Ursula, Mariah Elizabeth, Mary, Alice and Ellen. He was the fifth youngest of the ten children.-
