John was born on April 9th, 1918 in Roxboro, Person Co, NC. John's father was Daniel Ruffin Rhew and his mother was Edith Lyndell Clayton. His paternal grandparents were James Simpson Rhew and Frances 'France' Taylor Clayton. He had three brothers and three sisters, named James Stedman, Daniel Ruffin, Infant Son, Fannie Leen, Edith Winsom and Dora Montane.General Notes
