Her maternal grandparents were William (Bill) Collin Akin and Rebecca (Becky) McKinney. She had three brothers and seven sisters, named John Franklin, Collin Akin, Alexander Steven, Leander, Mary Frances, Sarah E, Lucinda, Martha Susan, Rebecca Leona and Mary. She was the fourth youngest of the eleven children.-
