His maternal grandparents were Benjamin Earl Bishop and Naomi Jane Shipley. He had two brothers and three sisters, named William Earl, Herbert Calvin, Dolly, Myrtle and Mable. He was the third oldest of the six children. He died at the age of 82 on October 21st, 1968 in Dallas, Dallas County, Texas, USA.
