Laura Cowan was born on December 21st, 1896 in Rowan, North Carolina. Laura Cowan's father was John Varner Niblock and her mother was Sallie Ella Foster. Her maternal grandparents were William Williamson P. Foster and Sarah Harrelson Montgomery. She had two brothers and two sisters, named George Foster, Niblock, Lucy and Mabel. She was the second youngest of the five children. She died at the age of 51 on December 29th, 1947 in Stateville, Iredell, North Carolina.-
