Mary Ann was born in 1869 in Mulberry, Crawford County, Arkansas, USA.1 Mary Ann's father was William Newton and her mother was Hanna Rette Shipley. Her maternal grandparents were Benjamin Franklin SHIPLEY and Sarah "Sally" BURKETT. She had three brothers and a sister, named Benjamin Franklin, Stephan A., Lewis and Sarah Melviney. She was the youngest of the five children. She died at the age of 66 in 1935 in , Union County, New Mexico, USA.
