Herbert was born in 1366 in Caerlaverock Castle, Dumfriesshire, Scotland.1 Herbert's father was Sir Robert Maxwell of Carlaverock and his mother was Janet Forrester. His paternal grandparents were Sir John de Maxwell and Christian; his maternal grandparents were Laird John Forrester and Margaret. He had a sister named Margaret. He was the older of the two children. He died at the age of 55 on October 28th, 1421 in Caerlaverock Castle, Dumfriesshire, Scotland.1 -
