Gruffydd ap was born in 1085. Gruffydd ap's father was Maredudd ap Bleddyn Prince of Powys and his mother was Hunydd verch Einudd. His maternal grandparents were Einudd Gwerngey ap Morein and Eva verch Llewellyn. He had two brothers named Madog ap and Hwyel ap. He was the oldest of the three children. He died at the age of 43 in 1128.1 General Notes
