Martha was born in 1790.  Martha's father was Jesse Hix and her mother was Jane Ferrell.  Her paternal grandparents were William Hix and Elizabeth Holloway; her maternal grandparents were William Ferrell and Martha. She had two brothers and two sisters, named Drury, Thomas, Elizabeth and Hannah. She had four half-brothers and a half-sister, named William, Leftwich, Henderson, David and Emily.
