Spurgeon Holmes Foster 
Spurgeon Holmes was born on September 30th, 1917 in Davie, North Carolina.1 Spurgeon Holmes' father was James Franklin FOSTER and his mother was Mary Lillie Bell Garwood. His paternal grandparents were William Henry FOSTER and Martha Marie LAIRD. He had two brothers and four sisters, named William David, Charles "Charlie" Franklin, Leona, Sallie Vera, Geneva and Theodora. He was the youngest of the seven children. He died at the age of 89 on November 3rd, 2006 in Mocksville, Davie, North Carolina.2 General Notes

Spurgeon Holmes Foster Sr. MOCKSVILLE - Mr. Spurgeon Holmes Foster Sr., 89, formerly of Dulin Road , Mocksville, died Friday, Nov. 3, 2006, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem . Mr. Foster was born Sept. 30, 1917, in Davie County to the late James Franklin and Mary Lillie Bell Garwood Foster. He was a retired farmer and was a member of Cornatzer United Methodist Church , where he had been a trustee. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Leona Hepler, Sallie Winters and Geneva Hepler; and three brothers, William Foster, Theodora Foster and Charlie Foster. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Virginia Lucille Melton Foster, of Autumn Care of Mocksville
