Sarah was born in 1796 in , Spotsylvania, Virginia, USA. Sarah's father was Thomas Foster and her mother was Susanna Foster. Her maternal grandparents were James Foster and Elizabeth Parish. She had three brothers and two sisters, named James, Robert Dudley, Austin, Catherine Graves and Susannah. She was the second youngest of the six children. She died at the age of 77 in May 1873 in , , Missouri, USA.-
