Darce was born in March 1898 in Green  County, KY.  Darce's father was Elijah Ford and his mother was Laura A. Skaggs.  His paternal grandparents were John R. Ford and Lucinda. He had five brothers and two sisters, named Alonza, Luther, Everett, Robert, Ivy, Lou T. 'Fency' and Living.
