William was born about 1220 in Norbury, Uttoxeter, Derbyshire, England.1 William's father was John FitzHerbert and his mother was Emmeline de Grendon. His paternal grandparents were William FitzHerbert and Agnes De Stretton; his maternal grandparents were Lord of Ockbrook William de Grendon and Ermentrude. He was an only child.
